Happy New Year. We hope you and your horses are surviving the winter well and looking forward to a busy and active 2018.

As usual we have a jam packed schedule for you this year with our popular polework clinics with Emma McGurk, flatwork clinics with Justine Sole, Leanne Wall and Jenny Barry, as well as our monthly dressage competitions kicking off in March, with qualifiers for this year’s Sunshine Tour as well as the ROR Championship. There will also be a social trip this year, most likely to the Windsor Horse Show.

Do take advantage of the clinics over the next couple of months as they’re held in the lovely indoor school at Four Elms, which gives us all a break from the wind and rain.

Membership renewals

It’s that time of year that we urge you all to renew your LRC membership if you haven’t already done so. The cost remains the same this year and is a bargain at £24, giving you big discounts on all our events. Any renewals not made by the end of January will mean your membership will be cancelled, so please do this by clicking into MyRidingLife at

This year’s AGM will be held at The Elms on 24th January at 7pm, with coffee/tea and cakes as well as a special members’ shopping night at the fantastic equestrian shop, with sale items available.

Committee members

We are still looking for active, keen people to join our committee. If you are prepared to take on a specific job, attend a meeting every couple of months and generally help out, then do contact us. Our committee needs a bit of a boost with some new faces, willing to get involved and help out.

Cost reduction on training clinics

As a riding club we are now in a healthy financial situation and in order to pass this on to our members we are planning to subsidise the cost of some of our training clinics for a limited period. We will announce further details at this year’s AGM, but we hope it will get more of you out to our clinics in order to improve your riding and your horse’s way of going…and of course to have fun.

Helpers at the Dressage

We have a real problem getting a strong team of helpers out to help at our dressage competitions, which puts the pressure on our small group of committee members. As a result we face the prospect of having to reduce the number of dressage events we run in order to ease the pressure. Another option might be to offer helpers a discount voucher towards our clinics and competitions.

We’d welcome your feedback on this as to whether it would encourage you to give up your time so please email with your thoughts to

Bookings & booking policy

We have recently introduced booking slots on MyRidingLife for our Justine Sole training weekends. This is already working well and means that those that book early get to pick the time slot they want. For other events though, please do not specify a time you would like to ride. Often we don’t know what time the trainer wants to start and start times will depend on this and the number of entries we have. So please be flexible with your availability.

New cancellation policy

As a club we have struggled with our cancellation policy. We try to be fair if you cancel for whatever reason, but after a certain date we declare the entries to the trainer, who then books out her time to the club and at that point we are obliged to pay her, as well as the venue hire, regardless of whether there is a cancellation.

We have therefore decided that our policy on refunds, cancellations and transfers for 2018 will be as follows: If you request a transfer or cancel your entry via the club email for whatever reason up to seven days before the event or the clinic, we will refund your entry, minus a £5.00 admin fee. Any cancellations or transfers after that date will be refused. Please submit your transfer or cancellation request via the club email – – as no request will be accepted via text or Facebook.

This system, which echoes the BD Southern policy, is much more transparent and means that the club doesn’t lose money on cancellations, but that you have the option to get a refund if you so wish. We will review this policy halfway through the year to make sure it is working, but this will come into effect from 1st February.

Meanwhile, do let us have any feedback via our email address and we look forward to seeing you at the AGM on 24th January.

Happy Riding!
