CLINIC REVIEWS

   “under Dan’s unfaltering

     expert eye”

Riders and the weather alike warmed up for one-on-one lessons with Dan Watson at the flatwork clinic held at Tatsfield Court Stables on 13 June 2009. Watson, whose recent trip to Australia saw him win the Best International Rider Award, tutored riders (and horses) of various levels, as temperatures rose steadily to the mid-20 C.

Cheryl and her horse Tador were first off the mark at 10.00am. Each of the 10 x 45 minute sessions gave riders, horses and spectators valuable, cost-effective advice under Dan’s unfaltering expert eye.

“With a clinic, riders get to have tuition with a trainer who would normally charge much more for an individual visit. Also, each rider can watch each lesson to pick tips or observe a correction and it’s also good to hear a trainer give advice that hopefully runs along with your thinking or that may come from a different perspective but that still fixes the problem,” said Alex Bonnell, owner of Tatsfield stables, who was pleased with the progression she and her horse Bailey made during their afternoon lesson with Dan.

Francis Whittington

On 20th November Limpsfield Riding Club was delighted to welcome up and coming event rider Francis Whittington to train some club members and local riders.

The day was a roaring success with two jumping groups and one semi private lesson.  Abilities ranged from riders hoping to compete at training level and intro and also riders that just wanted to take advantage of Francis’ s knowledge.

Gillian Miller took place on the first jumping session of the day and here is her review:

I booked my first jumping clinic with Francis with more than a little trepidation.  I constantly battle with nerves when it comes to jumping and have only just taken on riding my daughter’s horse whilst she is off to Uni.   Francis quickly settled my nerves with a little light banter and an informative chat establishing what problems exist within our riding partnership.  He remained enthusiastic, good humoured and informative throughout the clinic emphasising the importance to build on both the horse and rider confidence with correct repetition, clear instructions and small changes in body positioning. He treated each person as an individual and took the time to listen and provide individual solutions.

Francis gave a highly informed, easy to understand lesson and seemed a very grounded person with a real passion for the sport and a great understanding of both horse biomechanics and the human psyche - I will definitely be back for more!
