Michelle Cogger

Michelle started riding at the early age of three on ponies then progressed onto eventing, she is now continuing her passion through Dressage. To date Michelle has competed up to Inter 1 on several different horses and has a very successful career.

During Michelle’s training she watched many other pupils of all abilities having their lessons. It became clear to her that everyone was watching the way the horses were performing and nobody was watching the riders! “We spend an inordinate amount of money and time training our horses and looking after them but if the rider is not balanced and seated correctly all that money is wasted as the horse is an extension of its rider”.

Michelle developed an idea with a company called 'Racewood' and together they designed the first horse-riding simulator. These amazing simulators are so advanced they are fitted with sensor pads which allow riders to work on their leg aids. There are also sensors in the mouth to allow the rider to work on the contact, Michelle recently worked to develop the machine further by introducing neck bend. This has been invaluable to show the riders how to keep an even contact into each rein.

The simulators are housed in a stables surrounded by mirrors. This allows riders to see their own position at the start of the lesson and the correct position Michelle places them in. Sometimes these positions feel very different to the way they look so the mirrors are vital. Michelle has taught many professional riders as well as BD trainers and BYRDS in the Southern and Eastern region.
